Bloodborne’s boss battles too brutal for you? There’s an easy exploit for that

Brutal

Brutal. Dastardly bastardy. Various other cuss words so heinous, that they were last heard in an episode of Spongebob Squarepants. Yep, sounds pretty much like Bloodborne to me! From Software’s hit action RPG digital torture session isn’t exactly an easy game, with death merely a nightmare-fuelled monster away. The game puts the baws in boss battles, with some challenging creatures looking to turn your skull into a love toy. Fortunately, there’s an easy way around that. Just don’t tell anyone that I used this method, ok?

It’s a simple fix really. Just leave your Playstation running for half a day, and you’ll soon be walking over the corpses of bastard bosses.

Redditor meatballz came up with the fix, after discovering that boss battles became easier when the game had been running for over 12 hours. Meatballz detailed his method below:

I just tested this yesterday by turning off the PS4 power saving options and leaving Bloodborne running all night. Sure enough, when I played in the morning Logarius had transformed from an intense spell casting maniac into a senile old man who did nothing but attack with his scythe over and over. BSB stops jumping all over the room and doing multi-hit combos and just politely spams his side-swipe, Amelia stops healing, One Reborn stops pooping acid, every boss changes in some way and ultimately becomes much easier.

Here’s some video from meatballz, showing the differences in difficulty:

Responding to that post, Selakah outlined some of the crippled bosses they’d experienced in their initial play through after a marathon session:

  • Mergo’s Wet Nurse did nothing but walk towards me while flailing. No dark cloud phase. She was basically stuck walking towards me like a slow lawnmower.
  • Micolash did nothing but try to hit me with his fists. No tentacle attack, no cosmos attack.
  • Ebrietas repeatedly faceplanted and spit blood at me. No cosmos attack, no forward lunge, no variations.
  • Logarius just used his scythe attack, zero spellcasting. He was permanently stuck swinging at me like this.
  • Abhorrent beast did nothing but his 3 hit combo in every phase.

According to the thread, the bug is a result of a memory leak that gobbles up resources when Bloodborne has been running for half a day. It’s a useful way of cheapening the Bloodborne experience I reckon, in order to finally, finally, get past that one boss. Or as Geoff constantly tells me, you could beat those bosses by not being sh*t at the game.

Made it to the woods this weekend. Loving the honeycomb level design in that you can open gates to create shortcuts through the game

Ahh shadows of Yharnam. Fire DEF is a must. Charred hunter gear and Fire DMG reduction rune makes the battle much easier. Push forward to Byrgenwerth and face a really ‘fun’ boss 😛

Byrgenwerth… Is that the place with that big plant who shoots those projectilesat you?? If so yea I did go there and then into the building, to be greeted with another POS crazy hunter that kills me in like 2 blows…

            April 7, 2015 at 10:44

Yup, that hunter ain’t TOO bad but can F you up as she has magic attacks too. Visceral attacks are your friend. She tends to charge up a lot so be sure to get some gun attacks in to stagger. She has a shit ton of health so yeah, lure her outside.

          • WitWolfy

            April 7, 2015 at 10:47

One question does creatures attack the hunters too, or do they both only tend to attack you? Otherwise I’m gonna lure that biatch outside and let that Bug thing from “The mist” kill her. while I’m spamming molotovs.

            April 7, 2015 at 10:54

Try it out, not a bad theory. Creature’s attacks only seem to affect you but not sure against other hunters, try it out and lemme know! 😀

Reporting back… Using myself as bait last night the hunter just stood outside like a little bitch while those bees things attacked me ignoring the hunter completely.. Further more… It looked like the hunter just casually walked back to the library when I ran too far away from him/her..

            Was worth a try…

            April 7, 2015 at 11:09

She’s not that hard, you just have to get close and get a few gun parries and ripostes off. She doesn’t magic attack if you’re close. Takes about three parries and ripostes.

Stand a certain distance from a boss, he does a certain attack. These exploits have been around since Demon Souls but From Software never learn. Hopefully, these exploits will be patched out soon. The Logarius boss fight is so much fun when he’s not spamming his scythe attack.

My suggestion run pass those idiots and get to “The great bridge” face the Cleric beast. Die and start leveling up your character using the doll which should be alive now.
            ]
When you’re about lvl 17 or 18 then go face the Cleric beast again and kill that fudger.

          • CaptainNemo42

            April 7, 2015 at 12:30

Okay, well take it slowly in the beginning, don’t just rush at the enemies. Learn your movements, also, don’t know if you know this. The Analogue R3 botton locks onto an enemy, it helps you die focus on that enemy, you can switch between them by flicking the R stick.

Holding R2 does a charge attack, which if you time it well does a ton of damage, and if you manage to sneak up on an enemy you can do an R2 charge attack followed by R1 to do a critical hit backstab.

Last thing, practice and learn the Gun parry (L2), if you hit the dude while he is starting his attack, you will stun him and make him drop to his knees, you can then run up to him to do a critical strike on him. It’s an insta-kill for the early enemies, and a very usefull skill later in the game.

            April 7, 2015 at 12:45

Shot, I think my problem is I want to just run up to everything and take it on. Gotta be more sneaky it seems.

            April 7, 2015 at 12:49

Not even sneak, just take note of attack patterns. Slow and steady wins the race. Get the hang of combat and soon you can bum rush them all you want 😀

It’s true. I think there is a lot of people that got sucked in by the hype, not knowing what they let themselves in for, a lot of people will probably give up before they get past the Cleric Beast. And it is such a shame, because the game really does start to shine a bit later. For me, it was during that after the Vicar Amelia fight. I struggled, and struggled and then it just somehow clicked, and the game becomes an absolute joy and masterpiece.

Yup, but that’s Souls I guess, but once you get the core mechanics down, you’re fine. It’s very community based so newcomers should never feel bad looking at the wiki or asking for help.

            April 7, 2015 at 12:38

I looked for help with Rom, but still battling. Had myself deliberately killed by those dudes with a sack over his shoulder so I can go and fetch it. Still struggling with the fight, think my timing is just wrong.

          • Umar

            April 7, 2015 at 12:44

Oh, the Tonitrus? Yeah, it helps to have that weapon though. The battle is all about timing and dodging, hooo boy do you have to dodge. made worse by the fact that you can only damage him from the side :/ Basic strategy is run towards and just get as much hits as you can, ignore the spiders and then run away and dodge. Sounds simple, but the best way is to bum rush him and take note not to get caught in his AOE attack that will probably kill you.

          • CaptainNemo42

            April 7, 2015 at 12:59

Yeah, I do that, it’s the AOE attack that gets me, not that it kills me, my health is good enough, but the a little spider comes a long and nails me while I’m getting up. Like I said timing. I find the best is just to put the game down and play something else for a day or so. Sometimes when you go back, its suddenly a breeze.

I had that with the Capra Demon in Dark Souls, was stuck on that thing for hours, just couldn’t get past it. Damn dogs and little space didn’t help.

The best part of Souls games is the satisfaction of beating them without cheating..

Bloodborne was amazing, I loved every second of it. Ebrietas was the hardest boss for me by far, I just could not kill her solo, and eventually summoned someone to help.
