Jonathon Blow, the developer of the smash hit Braid has been chatting at GDC about many things, one of them being the size of the budget required to make a game like Braid.
Well it’s not the little budget game we thought it was, it actually required a budget of around $200 000 which is just a little more than most people have lying around.
However he does go on to say that a large portion of that budget was spent on the awesome graphics in Braid along with also paying for his accommodation and things like that.
So it is possible to move into your moms house and create an awesome, maybe not so pretty game, for a very small budget but in reality we still need the money.

Did he develop the game on his own? If so he will start throwing in things like buying people birthday presents and hospital bills into the budget… haha

He didn’t build it on his own. The bulk of the expense was for his artist and basic living expenses.
