Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest rated player in FIFA 17

1 min read

FIFA 17 is coming this year – and for the first time, it brings with it a story mode. It looks like it’s trying to take a page or two out of 2K’s book, by turning the game’s campaign in to a bit of a sports RPG. I’m okay with that. I like having some sort of story-driven campaign in my games. The story mode – called The Journey – will see you playing as Alex Hunter, a player at the beginning of his career. You’ll spend your time working your way through the ranks and making choices. Yes there’ll even be some Bioware-influenced dialogue wheels, and branching story paths.

Grass Effect?

Anyway, for those who aren’t keen on that sort of thing and want to use existing, real life players, you’ll be happy to know that many, many of your favourite real-world players are in the game, along with their own ratings. For the first time in a long while, Lionel Messi isn’t the highest-ranking player (perhaps he’s been taxed?), with that honour now belonging to Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Here’s the top-ten rated FIFA 17 stars:

  • 1. Cristiano Ronaldo – 94
  • 2. Lionel Messi – 93
  • 3. Neymar – 92
  • 4. Luis Suárez – 92
  • 5. Manuel Neuer – 92
  • 6. Gareth Bale – 90
  • 7. Zlatan Ibrahimovi? – 90
  • 8. Jérôme Boateng – 90
  • 9. Roberto Lewandowski – 90
  • 10. David De Gea – 90

It’s worth noting that fan-selected cover star Borussia Dortmund player and German national captain Marco Reus comes in at 50 on the list, with a rating of 88. You can see the full 50 top FIFA 17 stars on the EA Sports site.

Geoff did you die a little having to write this? I am struggling to convince myself to pay R1000.00 for Fifa or any game to be honest. Paying R530 for Destiny’s new expansion which will keep me busy longer makes more sense to me… I am still sticking to my plan of playing games a year late. Haven’t even bought Deus Ex yet… I have the money, but I think I have reached my stingy limit for gaming!

Agreed, I can’t justify paying 1k for a footy title before I’ve even bought the new Deus Ex (as as massive fan) but I also never bought into the Destiny hype so passed.

I think Suarez has taken much of the focus off Messi allowing him to create far more even though he isn’t scoring at the same rate. I do feel that Ronaldo, Messi and Suarez are separated by the smallest of margins on their good days followed very closely by Neymar. Football fans are soooooo lucky atm with the standard of footy being played unless your’re a Liverpool fan of course ;-p
