Darksiders 2 will have a new protagonist

Darksiders is totally awesome; any game that allows you to pick up an enemy by the leg and then smash it head-first on the ground gets a 10/10 in my book. I was a little late to the party so I’m actually playing it at the moment. The good news is that once I’m done with it I won’t have to deal with that nauseating uncertainty of whether or not there will be a sequel.

What’s that? You didn’t know the God-of-World-of-Zelda-Craft game was getting a sequel? Come now, all gamers know that if a title performs well then the likelihood of it getting a sequel is a no-brainer. Darksiders 2 will be getting a new lead character. Want to know who?

So do I, but we don’t know just yet. What we do know is that you won’t be playing as War anymore, but don’t panic because there are four Horseman of the Apocalypse, and Danny Bilson, the VP of THQ, has piped up to remind us just that. Speaking at the IGDA Leadership Forum in San Francisco, Bilson said, “When we do the Darksiders sequel, it’ll be a different character and take place simultaneously to the other story. There’s only one apocalypse – I couldn’t very well have four different apocalypses, one for each rider.”

A story that runs parallel to the first Darksiders is a great idea. It’s awesome when sequels offer different points of view. It worked well in Half-Life and all of its expansions, why shouldn’t it here?

When can we expect this sequel? THQ has announced that we might have it around 2013. Boo! That is a long, long time away. At least I won’t have to rush my Darksiders playthrough.

  1. 1) War is the coolest Horseman.

    2) Supposedly (and this isn’t much of a spoiler) but the other horseman are not released during the apocalypse because otherwise War wouldn’t be trying to clear his name alone. And if you played the game and know the ending then … yah.

If its not a horseman then we will probably play as:
    1) An angel. Maybe one assigned to protect a certain seal and who was betrayed and trying to clear his name.

    2) and I am really hoping for this one: Sam and/or Dean from Supernatural.
