THQ released a teaser trailer for their upcoming Darksiders II last night and it’s so close to perfect and yet so annoyingly broken at the same time.
The video itself does a great job of building tension and suspense while (OH GOD DON’T STICK YOUR HEAD THERE) leaving me wanting more – however it just ruins the entire experience for me at the end when it asks us to Like their Facebook page to reveal the next part of the trailer.
I’m all for self promotion and if I could get 500k people to like our Facebook page here I’d be over the moon but the way gaming companies are doing it now is just irritating.
Trailers and teasers and screenshots are all released in the run up to a game’s release to build hype and excitement. Getting your customers to beg for more teaser footage just doesn’t sit right with me at all.
So THQ, how about I don’t like that Facebook page and you send me more footage anyway? Because you know you are going to anyway, even if not a single other person hits like your next footage is going to hit the web as part of your carefully planned marketing campaign.
Despite the stupid marketing ploy I can’t say that I’m not excited for the release of Darksiders 2
