Dehaka

“Every breath you take. Every move you make. Every bond you break. Every step you take. I’ll be watching you.”

I think The Police sum up Dehaka pretty accurately with their classic stalker hit from the 80s. Though, I do think the lyrics should go on to say something about stealing essence, hiding in brush, and killing all the things.

Then again, what the hell do I know about song writing? Not much!

Anyways, Let’s not let my dreams of fame and fortune detract from the true nature of this article. We’re here to talk about Dehaka, the primal zerg. He was teased a couple of weeks ago, and now, finally, he’s ready to enter the Nexus! Here’s an overview of who he is, and what exactly he is capable of

On their home planet of Zerus, all primal zerg know that to survive is to collect essence, consume, and evolve. Among these ruthless predators, there is one in particular who has set himself apart—the creature known as Dehaka. The alpha of Zerus and pack leader among the primal Zerg, Dehaka boasts an unrivaled ability to seek out essence ripe for collection in order to strengthen himself and his pack. His endless quest for new essence has now brought him out of Zerus and into the Nexus!

Basic Abilities

Essence Collection (trait)

Gain 10 Essence from Takedowns and 2 Essence from nearby Minions dying. Activate to consume all Essence and heal yourself for 64 (31 + 4% per level) Health over 5 seconds for each Essence stored. Maximum of 50 Essence. Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.

Brushstalker (Z)

In place of a mount, Dehaka is able to travel to any patch of brush on the map, making him a constant global presence.

Drag (Q)

Lash out with your tongue, dealing 351 (167 + 4% per level) damage to the first enemy hit and dragging them with you for 1.75 seconds.

Dark Swarm (W)

Deal 139 (63 + 4% per level) damage a second to nearby enemies for 3 seconds, and become able to move through units. Deals double damage to Heroes. Can be cast during Drag and Burrow.

Burrow (E)

Burrow into the ground, entering Stasis and becoming Invulnerable for 2 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

Isolation (R)

Launch biomass that hits the first enemy Hero dealing 439 (208 + 4% per level) damage, silecing and slowing them for 30% for 3 seconds. Only allows them to see a very short distance for 6 seconds.

Adaption (R)

After 5 seconds, heal for 60% of the damage you took over this period.

I really like Dehaka’s brushstalker ability. It gives him one hell of a global presence!

Other than that, it’s quite clear that he is designed to be in the thick of things. His drag is the perfect way to get a team fight started (or to pick out a juicy looking enemy), his dark swarm ideal for damage and positioning, and his burrow paramount to survival.

I don’t know if I’d buy him personally, but he’s an interesting addition to the Heroes of the Storm roster nonetheless. He also happens to be the 50th character released! My, how Blizzard’s MOBA has grown. I wonder who they’ll be releasing next? I’m pretty sure (and hope) it’ll be Tracer from Overwatch…
