Download your PS4 games remotely

1 min read

Here’s something quite cool about the Playstation4 that Sony Worldwide Studios boss, the supercool Shuhei Yoshida revealed on Twitter; you can buy a Ps4 game from your smartphone or tablet, and the PS4 will wake up, download the game, and then go back to sleep.

Right now, you can queue your games to download to your Xbox 360 and PS3 from the web-based stores – but the consoles actually need to be on.

This makes me happy, because nobody likes having to wait to play games…and I’m too lazy to actually go to a retail store to pick up games or have to depend on some courier to get my games to me. though Microsoft’s said nothing about this particular feature, it’s quite likely to make its way to the Xbox One as well; the console runs in a low power state to download updates and listen out for that “Xbox On” voice command, so it wouldn’t be a stretch.

Of course, with the size of next gen games and our delightful local internet connections, we could still end up waiting forever to play games.

What do you think? supercool feature, or something you’d never use?

Just make sure the PS Eye is not plugged in. That’ll create Big Brother rumours fly kinectically.

EDIT: This should be called PS Super Plus!

Knowing my luck, i will get the whinny version of PS4… “Why did u buy the game? Do you know how much it costs? And really, I must get up and download your freakin games whilst you shop on line?!?!? Whose controller were you holding in those pics? Is that beer I smell on your breath?”… I dunno, I like having physical discs, but that’s just me.

super cool feature… now if only it could allow me to remotely tell my PS4 to tell the microwave to reheat last nights left over pizza, fetch me a beer from my internet enabled fridge and pour it into my USB powered chilled beer mug, and have my cyber slippers ready to be slipped into and have it all waiting for me when I get home ready for an evening of gaming debauchery… Hmmm, I think I’ll have to rename the wife “PS4″…

I want to download my games on the pc or VITA.Don’t like leaving the console on the hole time to download a game.

It only turns on when it downloads a game then turns off back into a low power state when its done, like if you turn your ps3 off now, it isn’t Truly OFF, its still has power going into it, if you want it to Truly be off, you have to switch it off with the switch at the back of the console.

Can already do this on xbox360. Go to settings and turn on “download/Update while console is off” then you can purchase from the marketplace on any browser and the co sole downloads it while its idle in off mode. The “next gen” consoles just seem to be announcing stuff we already could do.. Making it public knowledge.. and calling it ….new -_-
