Molten Games is a new online game studio founded by key players from Blizzard, Sony Online and Relic, and it’s funded by NCSOFT.  Yup, these guys aren’t going to be another ‘indie game’ studio, they have a multimillion-dollar investment from the Korean MMO experts.  Gee, I wonder what these guys will be developing.

Jungwon Hahn, the CEO and co-founder said in a press release:

“We created Molten Games in order to truly have control over our game development and IP, and we’re going to create something epic. Our team understands not only the creation of online games, but the ongoing management of them, better than anyone else in the industry. As we continue to build our team and work on our initial product, gameplay and player experience is going to come first with every decision.”

No official news on what their free-to-play AAA online game will be like, but they certainly have some good people leading it – Paul Della Bitta is the former head of eSports and community at Blizzard and will be the chief product officer.  According to their LinkedIn company game, they already have 20 people working for them; their website shows them looking for another 8 people, including an Unreal engineer and UI Artist.

I’m very curious to see what the new game looks like, and I’m confident that when it’s released there will be a Korean kid who will kick everyone’s ass at it.  Because that’s just how it’s done.  I know these games take a long time to build, but they seem to have the money, capacity and know-how to make it happen.  Molten Games may be the next new house-hold name.
