Though Nintendo had an excellent showing at E3’s and changed a few minds, they are still having a hard time convincing people that the Wii U can afford gamers interesting and unique experiences. Horror games might be just the thing then; ZombiU is still one of the system’s more intriguing games, and now stalwart horror series Fatal Frame is headed for the system.
As I’ve surmised before, the series would be a perfect fit on the Wii U, with the Gamepad acting as the series fabled Camera Obscura; a device that can help its wielder see ghosts. It’s now coming to the Wii U in Japan, as Fatal Frame: The Black Haired Shrine Maiden, on September 27. There’s no word on a Western release, but I’m certainly hoping it’s something that happens.
The last real Fatal Frame skipped the West entirely, though much of that was down to publisher squabbles. Koei Tecmo and Nintendo seem to have reconciled, re-releasing Project Zero 2 (Fatal Frame’s European name) on the Wii, along with an ill-advised, frankly awful 3DS spinoff, Spirit Camera.
As is the norm for this particular series, players will have to find and summarily capture ghosts using an in-game camera. On the Wii U iteration, that means using the Gamepad – which is a match made in heaven, if you ask me.
Here’s a bunch of screenshots too, because why the heck not.

I’m replaying the series on PS3 and I must say, it’s still scary as hell. Waiting till the last minute snap a shot always gives me a heart attack

One thing though, Japan knows their horror. They rely more on the psychological aspect than actual gore

LoL. I hope you are referring to the games and not the Silent Hill movie. Personally I found that to be a snorefest.

I just remembered. The first one did do something no other movie in Hollywood could ever manage to do do, and should thusly be revered for it: They kept Sean Bean alive…

Which is something I kind of hope Hollywood can pick up on. Going to watch an American horror these days, I feel kind of compelled to take a vomit bucket with me.

No. Want to know what scene from a movie totally freaked me out, till this day? Paranormal Activity, when the girl gets out of bed and stands by the bed and watches the guy THE WHOLE FRIGGIN’ NIGHT!!!!
Now I want to cry again…

Hahahaha Indeed, I love slow build of horror. Immediate jump scare are just not that effective anymore. But I found it to be a good movie too…I cried too …and pissed
