Your Fired

Some sad news over the weekend.

The developer of Mythos and Hellgate has been shutdown with immediate effect, all the developers have been given 30 days pay and told to go on their way.

The intellectual property of Mythos has gone over to HanbitSoft and Hellgate has been given to Comerica… The two companies who came together to create Flagship.

The rumour is that a new company is about to rise from the ashes but for now, it’s all over.

This is some really sad news, I really wanted to like the guys at Flagship but there was no denying that Hellgate was one of the biggest disappointments I have ever had.

Agreed… it’s always sad to here about something like this, knowing people sudden have no more income but it’s not that big a surprise. Hellgate was such a cool concept and was such a big dissapointment

It’ll be interesting to see what the official word is from Flagship Studios, later this week, once they figure out what to say.

This might not have happened had they included lan play play in Hellgate.

Response from Flagship Studios! Limited details are provided, but at least it’s something. I’m just glad to hear any kind of a response. Though it does seem changes are on the way for “all” that subscriber content. If FSS does end up, long-term, continuing to provide/own Hellgate, it’s just a waiting game to see what changes are made with the profit model.

While the announcements from HanbitSoft, couple days ago, flat out says, they’re going to be making their own content for Hellgate / own the IP. Which may or may not have something directly due to all the layoffs at FSS. What would be really nice, and possibly even win/win for anyone, is if FSS and HanabitSoft both retained (or gained) rights to the point of each being able to take the game in different directions and actually so. Could only be a lesser chance of if two very different flavors of HGL came out. Hellgate: London Asia and Hellgate: London (FSS). Would be fitting what with HGL being the bastard son of a Roguelike.
