2011 is looking like a really strong year for not only gaming in general, but specifically the Playstation 3. This is of course, all thanks to its marvelous list of exclusives that include titles like Killzone 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, Uncharted 3 and more.

Today also happens to see the release of Mass Effect 2 for the Playstation 3, a title that has already earned itself huge lists of nominations and awards on Xbox 360 and PC. We at Lazygamer awarded Mass Effect 2 the only ever perfect 10/10 score to grace an HD system thanks to its gorgeous visuals, fantastic gameplay and engrossing story.

Even though the title is a year old on other systems, all PS3 exclusives now have to fight hard to earn the right to be called the best game of the year on the PS3 thanks to this massive hitter from Bioware landing on the system.

Will Mass Effect 2 destroy all of the much hyped PS3 exclusives in 2011, or will a brand new title have what it takes to take on the behemoth?

It might steal some thunder away from Little Big Planet 2 (which launched roughly at the same time), but as for the other exclusives, Killzone 3 is still a month or so away, so I doubt it’ll have a big enough effect on the big K.

Sales wise, I think Mass Effect 2 will do very well on PS3, but will it be able to steam roll Uncharted 3 or Infamous 2? Maybe…?

It’s going to be awsome but wont steamroll other exclusives. Each exclusive has it’s own special feeling and appeal.

I think rather than standing out on it’s own it’s going to collectively add excitement and value with all the other exclusives to make it a great year for the PS3.

According to Metacritic and Gamerankings Mass Effect 2 already hold an average score of 95%, right behind only GTA IV, Uncharted 2 and tied with LBP. If you ask me thats a hell of a debut, I played all the above mention games and nothing comes close to the combined ME experience, its a pitty that PS3 gamers are only getting ME2, because a 15 minute comic doesn’t come close to 2007’s RPG of the year.Still ME2 on its own will hold its own against the PS3 titans easily. Sales wise though thats another story…

My only question is when can Xbox gamers expect a game of the edition of ME with all the DLC’s included?

I seriously doubt we’ll see that any time soon, unless it’s a GOTY release*, but even then, just take a gander at the Forza crowd where a battle raged on the forums over DLC being available on the recent release of the game, and those that bought it earlier felt short-changed (because pretty individual snowflakes also deserve free stuff).

There’s a reason why Sony and MS do not release free avatar and home gear as part of their promotion for games, because ultimately these big companies are greedy (and can you really blame them? *James buys a Samurai outfit for his avatar*)

*I know the PS3 version of Oblivion came with all the DLC, but was an xbox 360 version released with all the goodies on disk?*

Took me a week to clock it on xbox 360. Then 10 days a month later to do so again on hard.

So no, by the time KZ3 hits, this will be the good game for January 2010 that we played, again. It is perhaps going to take some of DS2 and LBP2’s thunder, but personally I am getting LBP2 today and the ME2 and DS2 2nd hand / discount deals later in the year.

I’m actually expecting pretty mediocre sales for this title, it may well be a great game but it’s now a pretty old game being sold for full price just because it’s on a new platform.

We talk about price gouging all the time and I feel this is just as bad as those Call of Duty map packs.

I’m not so sure. Like EA titles of late, it’s selling cheap (R433 at Kalahari.net). considering it contains all of the DLc of the X360 version ( a value of about R350), will take 20 hours for a single playthrough and is immensely replayable, I’d say it’s good value and can’t really be compared to $15 map packs.

It’s all your fault. All you had to do was rock up in here and bring up some unrelated PS3 game, compare it to a supposedly hot Xbox 360 title and then call someone a fanboy.

Boom. There’s your Friday activities. Get creative man, the potential is there 😉
