Battlefield developers DICE have started hyping their Gamescom appearance, promising to reveal “something great.”

“As the preparations have been set and the ball is in motion, it’s safe to say we are going to have something great for people this year,” said Battlefield community manager zh1nt0. What could it be? The developer has said there’ll be no more map packs for Bad Company 2 – so it probably isn;t something as lame as that.

Hopefully it’s some solid details on Battlefield : Vietnam or, unlikely, Battlefield 3 or Bad Company 3. What I’d personally like from DICE though is a sequel to their underappreciated first person free-running game Mirror’s Edge – but it’s not something you’d expect the Battlefield community manager to be teasing. Still, I can dream, right?

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
