KillzoneMove

Guerilla Games have been showing of how they have implemented the Move into their upcoming Killzone 3 and from this limited viewpoint I can see two great inclusions and a negative.

The best thing I noticed is that your crosshair is no longer cemented into the centre of the screen and you now have the more realistic option of aiming towards the side of the screen without moving your entire body.

The next nice improvement is the ability to reload or pick up weapons without having to push buttons, I just feel that adds to the immersion nicely. Oh and did you notice you can now carry more than one major weapon at a time?

But with all good things there has to be a downside, the downside about using the Move is that you can’t lob a grenade as you would expect. Simply because the camera would follow the movement and you would end up looking at the sky.

This likely is going to be the case with all Move titles and is possibly the only time that a Kinect styled system would be an improvement. That is if the Kinect system is coupled with a standard controller.

Unless of course once you select the grenade, arm it and choose to lob, the video remains fixed, which allows you to aim with the move controller, or most likely since the camera is linked to your sub-controller (with its analogue stick) it takes away the free-roaming “I’m looking at the sky” camera problem.

But we’ll only know how the kit fares once it’s released.

It seems more likely that the move controller works like a computer mouse, but with added camera control on the sub-controller (or a normal controller). It’s do-able, I tried to visualise it with a spray can (the PS move simulator) in one hand and a normal controller in the other. Character movement is on the move controller with the pad (not ideal), aiming is with the Move controller in general, and camera is on the sub controller. Although, camera on the pad would work too because you don’t really need to move the camera around a lot, and it leaves character movement on the analog stick of the sub-controller.

    mmmm.. Theorycraft is fun!

@Fox1 – I will only say… Imagine the onrail fail of Halo on Kinect. Wave your hand to shoot. It’s not really possible for you to aim and you can’t move your character around… Truly the future of gaming 😛

Why fail? Because you can’t lob a grenade?

They could add it in by allowing you to hold the grenade button and locking your view. Then you have to aim with your lob on the Move.So ‘throwing’ it right would cause the grenade to go right.

This could be pretty cool. If the left analogue was in the same position as the Xbox 360’s stick, it would be a lot better to use the controller instead of the move thingy.

FPS gaming with a motion control is just wrong. You going to get whiners complaining about unfair advantages from standard controller users. Then there’s the lag.

Kb and mouse is best for FPS but Halo proved that wrong. Maybe it’s time for KZ3 to revolutionise the FPS genre n but looking at this, it doesn’t look like it’s worth playing a FPS with either Kinect or Move.

i don’t think throwing grenades is that big of a deal. you just click the button and it does it. not that hard to imagine. geesh.

ps3 fannies will say it’s perfect even when you show them its lagging. but that’s irrelevant. kb and mouse is more stable. i can guarantee that there will be software rigging to increase accuracy. that gun attachment for the move will be better and less straining than holding it in your hand.

Keyboard and Mouse will always be better. Also I’m in no way saying that there is no lag in Move. There is lag in everything – even your precious kb and mouse.

DigitalFoundry do some nice tests so maybe have a read. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-lag-factor-article http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/playstation-move-controller-lag-analysis-blog-entry

There already is “software rigging” to increase accuracy with console controllers.

Kinect only does “on rails”. It’s sadly the truth, my good man. Even kinectimals end up on rails, as you try to guide your virtual pet through the puzzle sections.

And how do you aim, let me guess with your buttocks muscles? I suppose changing weapons is done with the flick of the wrist, and if I shoot I have to shout loudly “pew pew”. :w00t:

Dude.. face it, Kinect is a joke.

@bobzurunkle: You do know that the PlayStation Eye also has a quad array microphone. You bias doesn’t exactly have 20/20 vision either.

How would Kinect know when you want to release the grenade? Does it really make sense to have to let go of your controller just to throw a grenade? Surely you will be really vulnerable? Using Kinect you wouldn’t be able to aim and throw a grenade (same as if Move implemented it). Sorry buddy find another place to troll.

with a statement like what lag? that’s exactly what you were saying. and of cooourse there’s software rigging in a controller. but when you talk about something being accurate would you need it? you shouldn’t but a lot of people will get frustrated when they can’t shoot jack because they nerves keep moving the cursor. like i said with the gun attachment you have a better chance.

The way Fox1 said “Then there’s the lag” makes it seem like a big deal. The lag on Move is very minimal.

“a lot of people will get frustrated when they can’t shoot jack because they nerves keep moving the cursor.” That’s a good thing in my mind. That increases the immersion in the game. I actually need to stay calm to play. I’m guessing you never played Killzone 2 but the way they used the sniper rifle was awesome. The sixaxis had to be kept still (or you could move it slightly to actually aim).

Yeah I mean I’ve played with the Kinect at E3, and it wasn’t nearly as accurate as I thought it was going to be, which is really sad.

That’s why I’m hoping Microsoft releases a wand controller, it’ll open up more gaming possibilities (it’s really a simple solution), and since the Kinect camera setup and software are potentially more advanced than the PS Eye Move, it’ll drag them away from this “1990s on-rail” and “2003 wave-gaming” shit.

ahh.. the lag on move is minimal sure it is on slow moving games. move fast and the lag increases. this is the main problem with “all” motion control period. every instance where you see the move being swung fast you see lag or no movement at all.

im not as bias as you think considering i have a ps3 running in the background. it’s about not being a dick and knocking new tech because you think small or frankly are a fanboy who’s opinion dont necessarily matter since you have no financial investment in it. the same people running around thinking the move is god’s greatest gift to mankind are the same ones that bashed the wii. im just saying

I dont know why anyone would want to sit and perform the lob for a grenade to be honest. Im a believer in gentle and simple MC not this shaking around like a monkey bullshit. Press A a be done with it. This is a really desperate attempt to find a problem wher there really isnt one.

Also again to educate a few of you lag is a problem with with big gestures e.g swinging a club in a golf game. You are hardly if ever going to experience lag while moving your reticule around a screen for a FPD. Oh aand id like to disagree with those that say a keyboard and mouse are better than Move or Wii motion plus. Obviously none of you have ever played a good FPS on Wii like Metroid. Yesterday someone posted another article about Move not being good enough in RTS games i think Geof and well Kotaku had an article claiming they were impressed with Move and enjoyed playing Ruse more with Move/navicontrollers than with a keyboard and mouse…. http://kotaku.com/5615512/playing-ruse-with-playstation-move

Comon guys if you dont like Move dont buy it but dont make rubbish claims you obviously know nothing about. Also the comments about Killzone 3 suddenly being crap because of Move is just laughable since its freaking optional and you could just use a dualshock.

“move fast and the lag increases”… you talk a lot of bullshit. Lag is constant. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow you move – it will always have the same lag. Think before you type.

I’m guessing you talking about how noticeable lag is. If there is a latency of 1s and you move something 1mm you would hardly notice it. If you moves something 1m you would easily notice it. The lag is constant but your ability to see it is different.

You do realise that there is lag even when seeing someone move in real life. A mouse and keyboard have lag. .

@bobzurunkle: Kinect was going to be my reason for getting an Xbox. I think the idea and possibilities far out stretch what Move can do. I’ve said this a few times on the site – Kinect 2 will be amazing. Kinect 1 has all sorts of problems, it’s just not ready at the moment.

Move is no where near perfect and the only real way I think they can improve on it is to actually use a tech similar to Kinect (two PS Eye’s set a certain distance apart). You have the Move for the precision and buttons and you have Kinect tech for everything else. Kinect will revolutionise the way we interact with things (mostly not in a gaming way).

Most tech sites that have actually used it are somewhat disappointed by it.

you know very well when people talk about lag in a videogame they’re referring to the latency. so this conversation is dead

you’re right. i will say this i like the move guys and the tech demos. where are the kinect tech demos. tech demos are usually first party to show the full potential of a device. right now i see once one developer figures out how to do something then they’ll get it to microsoft who will include it in the sdk. thats backwards. but only time will tell with kinect
