More fantastic news from Microsoft out of Gamescom! In 2009, Microsoft shut down two of their game development studios – ACES and Ensemble. Today they’ve announced they’ll be bringing new version of those studios most recognised games; Age of Empires and Flight Simulator.

Revealed today, Age of Empires Online will be adding a bit of Farmville-esque social interaction, levelling up, quests and persistent gameplay to the traditional AoE formula. It’ll give players the opportunity to “embark on quests along the way, alone or with friends, and immerse yourself in epic tales, quirky characters, adventure, history and strategy.”

Even better? It’s going to be free to play through Games for windows LIVE. It’ll be going in to beta soon, which you can join here. Let’s hope it’s awesome – and makes the scourge of internet gaming, Evony, redundant.

The other game to rise from the ashes will be Microsoft’s Flight Simulator – rebranded now just as Flight details on that game are pretty scarce, but there is a website that’s been launched. Unfortunately, it’s just as stingy with information about FLIGHT as Microsoft’s announcement.

Here are the trailers for both :
