If you haven’t already read yesterdays article about the free map pack codes in South Africa, you can get up to speed by clicking here.
I want to make a special note of something rather strange as well. Yesterday, I received my review copy of Gears of War 2 and lo and behold, it came with a voucher for the Flashback Map Pack. This little story of mine does have some serious significance but ill get back to that later.
Ok, now for todays update. I have what looks to be some really great news from Epic Games President, Mike Capps. As you all know, I emailed him yesterday about the issue at hand and he promised to get a hold of Microsoft in America and then get back to me.
Well can you believe it, he actually made good on his promise.
Here is what he had to say:
Hey – I passed this along to the MS folks and you should get a response later today. They’ve got some ideas on how to make it work for everyone.
Some ideas how to make it work for everyone? That sounds like really great news although we have to wait and see whether or not MS pulls through.
One other thing, remember my story about the voucher in my review copy? Well, long story short, I downloaded the maps and they worked without any region blocking issues, which basically means that if MS does pull through on the codes, everyone will be able to download the new maps straight away and without any issues.
As soon as MS contacts me, I will let everyone know what’s going on. Let’s hold thumbs that this all goes the right way for us and let’s not forget to take note the Epic Games cared enough about our little country to actually help us out. I gained a lot of respect for Epic over the last day, bravo to them.

So far so good, but I’ll reserve my praises until I’m actually playing the maps.

If we don’t get codes in the box then I’m pretty sure they will offer it as a download via some code on the Gears 2 box, like they did with Fable 2.

As some other guys have said i will believe it when i see it.
But the fact that Epic Games is responding is some very good news and it is sounding very positive.

I am also highly sceptical about Microsoft pulling through on this one. Everyone knows that MS doesnt give a rats tail about South Africa. Just look at the situtation with Xbox Live that we have..

I kinda disagree. The price of one Xbox game is roughly the same as a years subscription to Live so more happy gamers buy more game = more M$

BT sent me the below message on Friday when I queried the map pack. It was sent internally to all bt staff I guess. I though regardless of version all new retail copies got the flashback pack, this makes me wonder though.

Morning all
As some of you may be aware the CE of Gears of War 2 was originally supposed to be bundled with a bonus code for unlockable multiplayer maps and an ingame golden lancer. Unfortunately it seems that South Africa and Europe missed out on this.
Should you receive any queries in this regard then please inform the customers that we are not at fault it is in fact Microsoft.
I have contacted the local supplier who in turn is going to get feedback from M/S.

Msft. . .and South Africa.Does Msft in the U.S even care about us? ? ? what gets me is that going to msft S.A Wouldnt change anything either. . .doesnt seem like Msft in the U.S cares about what they think anyway.I hope they just release the maps on marketplace.quick, somebody tell me why it wasnt on normal market place from the beginning anyway ? ! ?
