Gears of War 4 is coming on October 11

2 min read

Gears of War 4 is coming, bringing one of last generation’s most influential action game series right in to the new generation. Okay, technically The Ultimate Edition of the first Gears of War already did that – but this is the first new game in the series. It’s also new Gears of War Developer The Coalition’s first time at bat on something that they can call their own – so there’s a lot of expectation around the game.

After a series of reveals from Game Informer throughout the course of last month, there’s really only one big question remaining: When’s it out?

You’ll be revving up your lancer on October 11.

“Gears of War 4 marks the beginning of an epic new saga for one of gaming’s most celebrated franchises, as a new band of heroes rises to confront a fearsome new threat,” Says The Coalition’s Adam Fletcher. “Harkening back to the dark and intense roots of the original classic, fans can expect a familiar, yet distinct evolution of gameplay, including brutal and intimate action, a heart-pounding campaign, genre-defining multiplayer and stunning visuals powered by Unreal Engine 4.”

If you’ll recall, there’s a beta for the game kicking off later this month for those who’ve played Gears of War’s Ultimate Edition, before it opens up to all Xbox Live Gold members on April 25.

Gears fans, the wait is almost over. We know you’ve been eager to see what’s in store for the future of Gears multiplayer, and next month, we’re excited to give you the first taste and an opportunity to help shape the multiplayer experience in Gears of War 4 with the launch of our global Versus multiplayer beta, exclusively on Xbox One.

Beginning on April 18, fans who’ve played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 will begin to receive tokens in waves for early access to the beta.  Following the conclusion of early access on April 24, all qualifying Xbox Live Gold members on Xbox One will be invited to join the beta until it ends on May 1.”

Yes, I’m excited. I spent far, far too much time playing Gears of War’s multiplayer – and I’m hoping that this new game can rekindle that magic. Keep your eyes peeled on Xbox Wire for more info.
