Roger Ehrenberg has posted an article on his site where he says that he doubts that Halo 3 is going to help Microsoft sell more consoles.
He has some valid points in the fact that Halo 3 will be rated M for mature which will obviously stop it moving over to the family gaming community which Microsoft so desperately requires….
Also that most Halo enthuthisasts are hardcore gamers and therefore have a Xbox 360 already….
However there is a flaw in his argument, currently Halo 2 is second most popular game on Live and a large portion of those players are still playing on the original Xbox.
So that is already a couple of million people who will pick up a 360 as soon as Halo 3 is released.
Then most consoles are sold in the holiday period, this would be 2 months after Halo 3 is released. When the consumers hit the stores they will be offered a PS3 with no huge killer titles yet as FF and MGS have been pushed into 2008 or they will be offered a Xbox 360 with Gears of War and Halo 3. Two killer titles (granted both shooters). This is really going to help Microsoft win this christmas battle against Sony.
Unless Sony gets a killer title before christmas Halo 3 is going to move many many consoles.
