Halo: Reach is going to sell more than COD: Black Ops

Executives do a lot of gushing about their newest products. Sometimes, they get extra gushy at launch events and say things that they probably shouldn’t have. Exhibit A: Stephen McGill, who is the head of Xbox UK. Recently he was asked by Eurogamer how he thought the newest Halo game would do against Treyarch’s up-coming entry into the Call of Duty franchise.

He responded by saying that Halo: Reach versus COD: Black Ops is “going to be a really good fight”, but that he believs Halo: Reach is going to outsell the competition.

Now that’s some fighting talk right there! Of course, he wasn’t that specific and the question remains whether he feels Halo: Reach will outsell COD: Black Ops when considering how Black Ops will release across all platforms, while Halo: Reach remains an Xbox 360 exclusive. Once you stick that fact into the melting pot his comment becomes a little loftier. The converse remains, however:   it’s quite likely that Halo: Reach will outsell COD: Black Ops on the Xbox 360.

Halo: Reach drops next week Tuesday (14 September) while the new Call of Duty: Black Ops sneaks into our consoles and PCs on 09 November 2010.
