How to unlock Bioshock Infinite’s 1999 mode

Bit Daddy

You kids today. With your regenerating health bars and omens of death. Back in my day, we had limited life bars and only so much turkey to eat to replenish them back in the good ol’ video game days! Rabble rabble rabble! Fortunately, if you’re feeling as old as I am right now, Bioshock Infinite happens to have a more “classic” difficulty mode hidden inside it. Here’s how to unlock it.

Most times, super-ultra f$%k your face difficulty modes require you to beat the game on the supplied challenge settings on offer. Not so with Bioshock Infinite, because all you need to do is to enter a code that should be second nature by now.

I’m talking about the Konami code, the skeleton key of gaming. Just go straight to the main menu, and enter the code. What, you don’t know the code? AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A GAMER? FINE!

PC and Xbox 360:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A

Playstation 3:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Circle, X

One notification later, and you’ll be having your gentlemanly buttocks kicked all over Columbia by dandy robots. Old School yo!

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia’s M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!

    Aaaaaaw Yeaaaaaah!!!!

Ok that’s it. I’m breaking out the CC. I want this game!

Bring it! It will have to do until Dark Souls 2 comes out.

  • sean

    bwahahahahahhahaha sweet!!!!

  • This must be the first cheat code since PS2 games….

  • I think more games should have the hardest difficulty available from the start, or they can do what DMC 3 did and have the Japanese Hard be the American Normal mode, trololol

  • Sir Captain Rincethis

Right, as newly single I think I can afford to splash out on ‘man ice-cream’, FUCK YEAH!

    • ElNicko

Atleast Gaming doesnt leave you with a Hang-over if you had to drown your sorrows.

      • Sir Captain Rincethis

Haha, that is gonna come, don’t you worry. Will be sure to book out Bridget Jonses’ Diary, pump up the ‘ALL BY MYYYYSEEEEELF” and klap a box of red! 😉

        • ElNicko

Rather make it a big bottle of whiskey ……Come on Man !!

          • Sir Captain Rincethis

Agreed, I am shamed in the above statement! No, someone, give that man ME a Bells!

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

*hands a case of Bells to Rincethis*

          • ElNicko

*Busts out the Ice and several Glasses*

          • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

*all get drunk and have a good party*

          • LordCaptainAwesomeness

Well if you are in the Fourways area, there is a Jack with your name on it

        • Anon A Mouse

At least your gaming time is going to increase twofold minimum.

          • ElNicko

More Free Time is never a bad thing

          • Sir Captain Rincethis

Agreed, as is my gaming budget!

    • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Sorry to hear that man. Guess it’s time to load up on as many mindless, shoot-em-ups as possible!

      • Sir Captain Rincethis

        You mean… 0_O

        • Sir Rants-a-Lot Llew

Dude, I said mindless shoot-em-ups! Not Suicide inducing whining in your ears!

Also, I lol’d. Really really hard. People are staring at me weird now….

          • Sir Captain Rincethis

            Hahahaha! Thank you sir!

    • Andre116

      Yup, sorry to hear that.

She seemed like a nice girl the way she would let you play games with us every Saturday…although that might have been part of the problem.

      Anyway, sorry to hear.

      • Sir Captain Rincethis

Nah, she just lives too far away now, had to move as she was too distracted to do her PhD, and long distance relationships put undue stress on anyone. Still mates though 🙂

        • matthurstrsa

Nice that it ended amicably. I did long distance for two years and its the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

    • OVG

      • Sir Captain Rincethis

OVG, you are going to experience a new type of ground and pound, perhaps I’ll unlock 100 AP for it… Oh hang on, I already have! 😛 trolololo!

  • LOL! Ah let’s get retro. I am in love with Bioshock. Its like i renewed my vows with it for an INFINITE time period. RinceThis, Bioshock is taking many partners so feel free to join.

  • Brady miaau

Forward, forward, circle kick to unlock the secret area.

    Never worked though!

  • matthurstrsa

Nice! If you look at Ken Levine’s Q&A on Twitter, he’s a really down to earth, funny guy, the way I wish all game developers were. Obviously that comes through in the game. Konami code FTW!
