How you’ll fight stuff in Kindoms of Amalur: The Reckoning

I love Skyrim – it’s easily one of my favourite games of ever – but if there’s one area where it does admittedly fall short its in the combat. Moving from Dark Souls to Skyrim, the difference in the immediacy and agency of your actions is all too apparent. Combat in Skyrim is a bit hit-and-miss, a roll of the dice. Doesn’t really make the game any less amazing, but truth is, the combat kinda sucks.

The next open-world RPG for gamers to look forward to is Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning – and by the looks of it its combat certainly doesn’t suck. In this combat trailer you’ll be shown just how fluid, dynamic and deep the fighting is. My excitement for this game, which has curiously flown under the radars of many gamers, goes up exponentially with each of these trailers. I don’t know if it’s just me – or the voice over on the trailer that sounds a heck of a lot like the seeress Theresa (Zoe Wanamaker) – but this game feels like the game that Fable could have – should have – become if it didn’t go the hyper-casual RPG route. It’s like Fable for grown-ups!

It’s out in February next year for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
