Welcome to a very special edition of Indie Zoe. C’mon, I know it’s after hours, but pull up a chair and let me tell you all the things you haven’t heard before. You know you wanna.
Results of the indie game developers survey are out and surprisingly few games went the crowd funding route. We hear a lot about Kickstarter, but only 5% of indie respondents had collected any income from crowd funding. Additionally, only 8% said that they made money from paid alpha sales, proving that people really do prefer to play games when they’re actually completed.
Speaking of crowd funding, it seems there was Areal mess. We told you about the controversy with the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. successor, and it just got worse. The developers started accusing journalists of bad reporting when they asked questions implying the whole thing was a scam. The game has met its Kickstarter goal, but the campaign has since been suspended. It’s all just a big bunch of bad news.
Prototype of the Week
This week’s prototype of the week is Caelum which has the most straight forward and awesome description:
you build your own totally custom spaceship and fly around and do things, like shoot other spaceships.
Perfect, sign me up! you can give it a whirl through the web build and be sure to give feedback to the developers so they can make a better game about flying around and making spaceships.
