Xbox 360 Failure

In my mind Arstechnica has always been very kind to the console from Microsoft so this article was quite a shock.

They have been discussing whether or not the 360 tower is crumbling and more to the point, how long it will be until the PS3 buries it.

I agree with most of their points in regards to the Avatars being Mii rip off’s, the lack of great 360 exclusives and the overall huge improvements on the PSN.

However I wouldn’t say it’s all doom and gloom for the 360 as there are still great games coming out for it and it does have a loyal and large following that is still growing.

Though I have been saying for quite some time now that they really do need to do something to turn this around, the PS3 will beat the 360 sooner rather than later if Microsoft doesn’t start to get some new ideas.

Yeah i read this article and they make some good points. As far as the Avatar-Mii rip off goes, who cares it they used someone elses ideas, as long as it’s worth using but in this case i don’t think it is.

I can’t see any XboX fans getting excited about having a Mii-like avatar.

I think there is no denying that this is happening, with the PS3 consistantly outselling the xbox in hardware, its only a matter of time before software starts following a similar pattern. The only thing is I dont think it will be a “crumble” but rather a slow smooshing 😉

Of the nest two years, the xbox will slowly start slowing down, fading further and further away from every ones minds…
I hate to say it, but Nintendo and Sony have been in this game much longer, and they know how to win a fight… Microsoft is the new comer, and they still have a few things to work on in order to get things done…

Look at Sony and Nintendo in the hand held race, the psp is “better” in terms of performance, usability and looks(thats more for me, i just think the DS looks a lil square)
But Nintendo is crushing them… All because of games, and the fun factor… Don’t get me wrong, 20 million units sold is pretty amazing, but nothing like the 60 million Nintendo racked up…

You see, experience is key, and Sony has enough in the console market to keep going.

But i guess the ps3 better keep building a bigger market share, simply because if it fails, then that might be the end of sony 😯

Msoft’s doing loads better this gen than last gen. I have a feeling that their 3rd gen machine will be a winner. I think we can all agree that this gen would have been much worse without the Xbox360.
But anywho, it’s not over yet, the Xbox360 is still going strong even if it’s being outsold by the PS3.

Agreed Slippy 😯 We need all the console to be in the race in order to ensure we get the best as the cosumer!
I am still glad the PS3 is slowly moving to the top 😎

By the time the PS3 hits it’s high, the xbox 720 will allready be around…

How come the Xbox gets slagged for ripping off the Mii’s ion the Wii while the PS3 gets no flak at all for blatantly ripping off achievements by creating “tropihes”? 🙄

Because Sony is the king of inovation, they came up with everything first and everybody else is always copying Sony while Microsoft is patiently waiting to see what Ninty and Sony is doing next and only kick into action when there is something to copy. 😛

The 360 is a great console, I am back on 360 again awaiting the 80 gig ps3 and nov for some decent games. The one part where the PS# is failing is online. Live is just so much better and more organized. 2009 the 360 will lose steam rapidly and the PS3 will take over. For now there is a lack of PS3 exclusives and 2009 will be the year of PS3

I disagree regarding your flak statement. Sony has been given a lot of said flak about their trophies. But then again… everyone is copying from everyone else it seems.

The 360 is a great machine and will continue to do well in this generation of consoles. The PS3 has had a spike in sales lately with Blu-ray winning the format war (good call on Sony’s part to utilize Blu-ray early) and also because of MGS4. I don’t think the 360 can be counted out just yet though. Of course sales have slowed a little, it’s been out longer. That doesn’t mean it’s going to lose the console war, however, and it still has massive support from gamers. As for who will actually win this generation, it’s too early to tell. It’s anyone’s game still at this point in my opinion 🙂

Right. You have it spot on Slippy. I do think the PS3 will top the 360 this generation, but Microsoft came out swinging – unlike the first time around – and have made some stellar games. Come the Xbox 720 (assuming they call it that), if they don’t release at the peak of Sony’s supposed 10 year cycle and have a focused strategy, we’ll definitely see a three way race.

I must admit, though, my very fondest memories gaming this generation have been on the 360. Bar Metal Gear and Zelda, everything that’s been sensational has been on the 360 thus far.

You gotta respect MS for doing what they did, repeating history by jumping into a crowded industry and making a mark (Sony did this 10 years ago when Ninty and Sega were battling it out).

MS are definitely here to stay and i look forward to the next-gen being a 3 horse race once again.

They will still come out 3rd in this generation.

The 360’s backed by MS. They are here to stay and for a very long time 😉
