Hey you!Yeah you, Mister I-bought-a-kinect-and-am-bored-with-the-games-on-offer. Think you could do a better job? Well here’s your chance to prove it, as Microsoft has just released a development kit with which you can make your own digital fondling interactive games.
Its as official as things get, and all you need to get started is a Kinect,a decent PC and the software, which you can download here.
The installation file download clocks in at around 100 megabytes, and this is what you get with it.
- Skeletal trackingThe capability to track the skeleton image of one or two people moving within the Kinect field of view make it easy to create gesture-driven applications.
- Raw sensor streamsAccess to raw data streams from the depth sensor, colour camera sensor, and four-element microphone array enables developers to build upon the low-level streams that are generated by the Kinect sensor.
- Sample code and documentationThe SDK includes more than 100 pages of technical documentation. In addition to built-in help files, the documentation includes detailed walkthroughs for most samples provided with the SDK.
- Advanced audio capabilitiesAudio processing capabilities include sophisticated acoustic noise suppression and echo cancellation, beam formation to identify the current sound source, and integration with the Windows speech recognition API.
So what are you waiting for? Get out there and make us some cool games! At least this time,Microsoft wont send a hit squad after your ass for using their technology inappropriately.
