Zelda wins big at 21st DICE Awards 2

The annual D.I.C.E Awards always feel like the capping off over the awards ceremonies for the previous year. It takes place so far into the new year that it’s often more a reminder of the games that wowed and dazzled instead of breaking new ground. So if the winners feel somewhat similar, that’s expected. And expected it was for Nintendo, who cleaned house with both Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Breath of the Wild alone walked away with a total of four awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, Adventure Game of the Year and the overall Game of the Year award. It was followed by multiple wins for Horizon Zero Dawn (For Outstanding Story and Technical Direction), Cuphead (For Animation and Soundtrack) and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (For Best Shooter and Online Gameplay).

The awards were spread out over a bunch of likely winners, but there’s no question Nintendo were the big winners. Along with the four awards from Breath of the Wild, they snagged another six for Mario Odyssey, Snipperclips, Metroid Returns and Fire Emblem Heroes – beating out all other publishers at the show with a total of 10 awards. You can find the full list of winners below (winners highlighted in bold).
