Mercury Steam did something incredible with Castlevania: Lords of Shadow; they managed to modernise the series but still have it retain its identity. Sure it may have been a little like God of War at first, but if you played through the whole thing you’d agree that it was undeniably Castlevania.

It was a bit flawed though.; the combat wasn’t quite as expansive as it should have been, nor was it nearly as open as some had expected. Both of those have been fixed in the impending sequel, Lords of Shadow 2; which shows Gabriel Belmont’s decent, while also picking up straight after the events of the first game.

It helps that, thanks to some incredible Art design, it looks pretty incredible to boot. Here’s a bunch of screens fresh out of Comic-Con, showing how good it looks. I got to chat to Konami’s Dave cox and Mercury steam’s Enric Alvarez about the game, and they promise quite a treat for fans.
