Mark Rubin thinks Carmack’s view on the Xbox One is inaccurate

I do say sir, I think you are mistaken

So when I was at the Call of Duty: Ghosts press event last week I noticed that Mark Rubin was being given a solid running over by an English journalist and was quite impressed at how good the journalist was at interviewing as well as how well Mark was at handling it.

One of the things I overhead in passing at the time was that Mark Rubin thought John Carmack’s assertions that the Xbox One is almost identical to the PlayStation 4 was inaccurate.

Obviously not wanting to steal some guy’s interview I never posted that but I see this morning that the interview has been posted and the interviewer was David Jenkins of the Metro in the UK.

The question that I heard being asked is in the interview as follows

GC: So when John Carmack and Shinji Mikami say the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are almost identical, is that something you could agree with?

MR: Hmm… I would say that’s a bit inaccurate but I wouldn’t be able to tell you any detail of why that’s inaccurate.

It was blatantly clear during the interview that Mark Rubin wasn’t allowed to say anything about the workings of the Xbox One and while neither he nor the PR guy on standby would elaborate why I think it’s quite obvious that when one platform pays you a ton of money to gain timed exclusivity you don’t go about saying bad things about it.

But it doesn’t take a genius to read between the lines in this interview and find out that not only is the PlayStation 4 more powerful but right now it is also easier to develop for and that makes for some painful reading for all the Xbox One fans in the audience. If you are wanting the graphically best cross platform games at launch then you are going to want to pick up the PlayStation 4. Which is lucky for us since that’s all we get for this year.

Now I’m still embargoed on the Xbox One version of the game but David did mention in his interview that the Xbox One version of the game is clearly a lot worse than the PlayStation 4 and to be honest I didn’t really see that. I’ve never been about the graphics in gaming though so possibly I just mentally ignored it but if you are planning on picking this up on Xbox One I wouldn’t start panicking. The PlayStation 4 is graphically superior because it’s 1080p compared to the 720p on the Xbox One. But that doesn’t make it the better version, there is more to it.

We have some awesome Xbox One footage that I can’t show you but it seems embargoes only apply to certain people as this YouTuber has had some footage up since yesterday and it is still going.. so that’s 200 000 impressions we can’t get. But to be fair to you, our sexy readers here is some Xbox One Call of Duty: Ghosts footage.
