Despite previous utterances to the contrary, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has confirmed that there are indeed plans to increase Xbox live’s friends limit.
"It’s definitely something we’re looking at expanding and, as this social network grows, we’ve absolutely heard the please for that. It’s on the list," he told Joystiq at this year’s CES. According to Greenberg – Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 – the 100 friends limit is a relic from the days of the original Xbox, but now they’re granted a little more flexibility with Xbox Live so integrated in to the system.
This is good news for South African users as we tend to use friends lists to organise games, instead of the public and ranked games afforded to our brethren in countries with speedier internet.

you know what when i first read about us playing with over seas users i got the idea the lag would be terrible from our side seeing our connection being so afwul. I mean i use a Iburst desktop modem and i can hear my friends clearly and they’re from England. Only when we join matches at times that the opposing player has a crap ping
