Microsoft nixes Sony union rumours

Last week, Microsoft registered Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com, leading to much speculation – in gaming circles, at least – that the bitter rivals of HD console gaming had joined together in unholy union to build a utopian chimera gaming device with Sony hardware and Microsoft infrastructure and development tools.

Well, that’s just not happening.

Microsoft’s Frank Shaw, lead corporate communications for Microsoft, tweeted this before the weekend :

re: sony/ms domain names: Sony = great MS partner. No scoop here, this was just a defensive domain hold. Let’s move on to weekend, kay? 🙂

So there you go, there’ll be no X-Station or PlayBox (both of which, curiously, sound like they could revolutionise the interactive adult entertainment industry) , putting paid to your dreams (or perhaps nightmares) of a unified gaming platform.
