Though it had been done many times before, Gears of War 2’s Horde mode really turned me on to the idea of co-operative, wave-based gaming. Modern Warfare 3, this year’s Call of Duty, will include a similar game-type in the form of its Spec Ops Survival mode. Blending Horde with Treyarch’s famed Zombie mode, Survival is an addition to Modern Warfare 2’s 2-player co-operative Spec-Ops mode – and it looks pretty damned intense. It’s a little like Gears of War 3’s Horde 2 in that doing well earns you money; money that that can be spent purchasing upgrades and weapons and ammo along with perks and equipment.
Modern Warfare 3’s adversarial multiplayer debuts at the inaugural Call of Duty XP fan event, which Megarom competition winner Jason Themistocleous will be attending. Lucky bloke.
Modern Warfare 3 will release for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 8 this year.
