Grand Theft Auto V has by now, probably already made over $1 billion in sales. On its launch day, it managed over $800 million. That’s pretty damned impressive, if you ask me. If you were to ask Peter Molyneux though, he wouldn’t be quite as chuffed.
“The newly released Grand Theft Auto V is a game that’s everywhere, you can hardly avoid it. It will achieve around $1 billion in revenue on consoles in just one month,” Molyneux said at a conference on innovation in mobile gaming, after noting the sand-box game’s immense popularity.
“Sounds impressive doesn’t it?” Molynuex asked rhetorically. “No. That’s not impressive,” he continued, saying that there are mobile games that are raking in “between $3 million and $5 million a day.”
“That is impressive,” Molynuex concluded.
While he is right in that there are casual, mobile and free-to-play (but expensive to do well at) games all over the place making a ludicrous amount of money; but has Peter made a game that’s taken over the entire gaming industry, ever? Has he even made any mobile games that achieve those sort of figures?
Besides that, the mobile gaming money-pit is a bubble that will eventually pop, if it isn’t happening already.

Peter needs to take a step back and sit in the corner cause so far there is nothing good that he has ever brought to the table in a LONG time. I think he should spend more time trying to make a seriously good game instead of commenting on other peoples real hard work and successes. Mobile games makes loads of money fair enough, but thats from in-app purchases that costs a load of cash so those games have recurring income if you can call it that. Im sure if GTA5 had to do in-app purchases that it would have made a ton more cash than what it has so far. All in all GTA5 did a seriously great job in raking in that much cash with a once off purchase apart from some form of recurring income.

Seems that Peter is now in the same boat as the one hit wonder songs that only get played at reunions and weddings where the cousin’s, uncles’s, dog groomer’s brother twice removed is the DJ.
They old and cheesy and can only really be liked once a mass amount of alcohol is consumed and by the next morning, is totally forgotten till the next ill planned event.

If the gaming industry was compared to a village Molyneux would be the perfect fit for the village idiot. He’s the office guy that, while everyone is talking about a certain subject, would suddenly interject, loudly and rudely, saying something completely senseless, leaving everyone shocked and weirded out, with only an “Uhm, ok?” breaking the silence.
So what do we do to such people. Simple. Feed him a cookie, and tell him to take a nap. Before he hurts himself. Or maybe not. Maybe he hurts himself and it would be funny.
