One of the titles that I am really looking forward to later this year has to be the new take on the Metal Gear universe in the form of MG Rising: Revengeance. It’s being developed by Platinum games, a studio responsible for two of my favourite titles, Bayonetta and Vanquish, and it’s looking like a mountain of over-the-top action and fun so far.
Details for the revived project have been tighter than Renee Zellweggers’ face after sucking a lemon, but thanks to some overseas publications and Twittering, a few new snippets of revenging information have been revealed for the upcoming action-heavy romp.
Kojima Productions spokesperson Jiroo Tsubuyaki recently posted the following image on Twitter, which shows main character Raiden doing his favourite impersonation of a classic Sub-Zero fatality.
If one were to examine the picture more closely like the MGS Fansite did, they’d notice that the Japanese kana symbol for the number one is present, indicating that the MGR:Revengeance will be a single-player only game. This shouldn’t be too surprising however, as previous Platinum Games productions have also been single-player focused.
Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, alongside some Kojima Productions podcasts, also revealed the following information about the game:
- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will have less cinematics than main entries of the series
- The identity of Raiden’s opponent seen in the latter portions of the announcement trailer will also be revealed ( it’s unclear when this will happen )
- There will be CODEC conversations, possibly more than what was found in MGS4
- The events happening between Metal Gear Solid 4 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be explained
Seeing as how I decided to get into the spirit of things and finally buy Metal Gear Solid 4 on the weekend, this comes as good news to me, because an hour after I started the bloody game, I was still watching a movie of Snake complaining about old age instead of getting straight into the action.
