Sales to date

The guys over at QSFS.com have put together a complete and detailed breakdown of the NPD year to date sales stats. Or in other words.. Who is winning in the US so far this year.

To get straight to the point.

The Wii is utterly dominating everything, followed by the DS then the Sony platforms with the 360 just pipping the PS2 to avoid last place.

So in effect Microsoft only has 11% of their home market share. With Sony taking 35% and Nintendo is absolutely miles ahead with 54%.

You can check the full breakdown through the link.

Embarrassing that 360 is close to been beaten by the PS2 considering it has a SKU that is close to the PS2 price…the writing is on the wall folks!

Embarrassing for whom? There is no writing on any wall. Nearly everything except the Nintendo consoles were beaten by the PS2. As long as Americans buy American, the 360 will float on. Anybody who believed that Microsoft would “win” this generation was…well…wrong, but this was a decent turn around. Next time round, MS will definitely be up for the fight.

i think people take market share too seriously too. If i had a product that sold 12 million units, mostly happy customers despite a manufacturing snafu of note and I’m making a profit, I’d be happy enoug to stay in the business. 3rd place ain’t bad if your business is sustainable.
