Just Add Water CEO Stewart Gilray demonstrated the Abe’s Oddysee remake at Eurogamer Expo and announced the new title. After running a competition where fans submitted suggestions for a title, Abe HD has been dubbed Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – New ‘n’ Tasty.
The reimagining of the classic game will feature:
- fully 3D rendered environments with ‘2.5D’ gameplay
- levels redesigned to take advantage of the new engine
- rerecorded sounds and voices, including some surprises
- full integration with gaming platforms
The game will launch on XBLA, PSN for both PS3 and Vita, with a PC version due to launch at a later stage. It’s expected for Q4 of 2013.
Lorne Lanning, founder and co-owner of Oddworld Inhabitants commented:
“Oddworld Inhabitants is always overwhelmed by the fan dedication to Abe and the games and hope to keep them involved in the creative process for future games. We are all excited about giving a new generation of gamers the opportunity to play Abe’s Oddysee the way they deserve.”
For many gamers Abe brings back so much nostalgia, the game was first released in September 1997 when I was but a wee lass as a 2D Action/Platformer and later digitally released in August of 2008. The game received many a great review and scored an 85 on Metacritic. After the success of Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath’s comeback, we can only assume that Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – New ‘n’ Tasty will be just as good.
