Overwatch closes its beta doors next week

Overwatch beta comes to a close next week

Overwatch has been in beta for a long, long time now. The new multiplayer shooter from Blizzard is just over a month away from launch, which means modes and balances are being finalised, visuals are being optimised and everyone is gearing up for the last month of development. As such, Blizzard is thanking the thousands of players who have helped them shape Overwatch into the game it is today, and closing the beta next week.

Overwatch will bring its closed beta testing to a halt on April 25th, as the servers are cleaned up and prepped for the open beta taking place in the first few weeks of May. After that the servers will go dark until the game launches at the end of May, with Blizzard thanking everyone who has played already for their contributions to making Overwatch the best game it could be.

Our sincerest thanks to all of our Closed Beta testers and everyone in the Overwatch community for participating in this critical part of the game’s development process. Over the past several months, you’ve shared tons of amazing feedback—and we’ve collected payloads of useful data—to help us balance, tweak, and fine-tune our heroes, maps, core game systems, and more. We hope you had a blast, and we can’t wait to fight alongside everyone on May 24.

The game will launch with a full roster of characters, with future additions being free updates to keep the playing field level. Overwatch will however offer a progression system and random loot drops for cosmetic items, as well as a way to purchase in-game funds to accelerate this process. It’s still a full-priced, mutliplayer only title, so make of that what you will.

I cannot, however, fault its gameplay. Matty and I have been playing the Closed beta since Day One, and I’ve loved all my time with the cartoony shooter. Blizzard have certainly taken a lot of feedback to heart and tweaked the game where it need it, so I’m excited to see the game launch to the masses and Blizzard continually support it for years to come.

Overwatch is out on PC, Xbox One and PS4.

  1. If it’s closing its beta doors does that mean it’s become a stable door?

Now that the Mercy Wings are live on Diablo 3, I might just pick it up.

There’s still the elusive open beta? The real test….. I wonder if blizzard has a special error code ready for connection issues on this game 😛
