It’s very easy sitting here in South Africa to think that a petition to add female teams to FIFA 14 is a bit of a ridiculous request, we barely have any female leagues worthy of mention and when we think about football it’s all male teams that we see.
However that would be grossly unfair to the amount of female players out there. In fact our female football team, Banyana Banyana, is rated higher in the international rankings than the guys and they represented South Africa at last years Olympic Games in London.
It’s also worth noting that there is a healthy ladies league in the UK with all the big teams having sister sides that compete on a weekly basis.
And when you cross the pond to the States it becomes a whole new ballgame. over 40% of football (soccer) players in America are female and they have also twice won the womens world cup which is nothing to lift your noses at.
A request was previously made to EA Sports to include female teams in FIFA 13 which was refused
“We get literally thousands upon thousands of suggestions from our fans for new features and we have to evaluate those suggestions, such as the inclusion of female players in the game, against our resources, priorities and overall fan feedback. At present, we don’t have plans to include female players in the game”
Will this new petition have any luck? Personally I doubt it as the game will be preparing for final polishes right now but it may herald the inclusion of the fairer sex in the next iteration.
But can you imagine the uproar when the character models end up accurately portraying some of the more good looking members of those leagues… no wonder EA is worried about entering that rabbit hole.
