Pre-ordering RE: Revelations 2 earns PlayStation owners extra content

I loved the first Resident Evil Revelations. It took the series back (somewhat) to its original survival horror roots, and it did it quite well. Sure there were no traditional zombies to dispatch, but the new faceless monster enemy types more than made up for that. Other than the rather good single player, there was a raid mode. It was essentially a collection of side missions which had players fighting enemies across the game’s locales with the goal of getting a good ranking. It was a ton of fun. Pre-ordering the second game will earn you extra content for the mode, at least, if you own a PlayStation that is.

The announcement was made at New York Comic Con (via Polygon)

Pre-ordering Resident Evil Revelations 2 on PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 will net players an extra bonus mode for free, producer Michiteru Okabe announced in a panel at New York Comic Con today.

The game will be available to pre-order on PS4 on Oct. 14 and for PS3 later this month. Pre-orders on these consoles will net the Raid Mode Throwback Pack for free. This pack features stages from previous, more recent Resident Evil titles that will be playable in Raid Mode.

Sounds quite neat, but what about the chaps who plan on getting the game on Xbox (360 and the One) or PC? Looks like they are missing out.

I’m really not a fan of content being part of pre-order bonuses. It’s just… silly. The game should be shipped to every person in its 100% state. This though is like giving away 95% and then rewarding players with the extra 5% for coughing up their money early. For me, the best pre-order incentives are those that come with a shirt or a collectible of sorts. There is no word on whether this new map pack will be released for other platforms (for a fee) at a later stage, or if it will be forever tied to PlayStation and those who pre-ordered. I really hope it’s not the latter.

Otherwise, I am quite excited for the game. It will be shipping in episodic form sometime in 2015. Will you be getting it?

That way they can sell the game to you, over and over.
Take out bits here, bits there and then charge you to access it.
