PS3 outsold Xbox 360 in February?

The official sales figures have not yet been announced but industry analyst Michael Pachter believes the PS3 has outsold the 360 in the US for the second month running.

However he did back this up by saying that the main reason for this is the limited availability of 360’s in the States which is now being put down to stock piling before the Xbox 360 price cut.

Even if the PS3 did outsell the 360 in the US the actual difference is marginal with the PS3 expected to sell 260 000 units while the 360 is close behind with 250 000 and the Wii still in front with 300 000.

We are going to have to wait until Thursday for the official sales figures but I don’t think many people are going to put much weight behind them now that we know Microsoft were planning a price cut all along.

A victory by 10 000 units is the closest the PS3 will ever come.

March/April is going to be exciting with the 360 price cut.

I think the significant thing about this is that the US is the only region where the XboX was outselling the PS3. Now i don’t think that 2 months of this means anything in the long term and the price cut will put a big end to it.

But you have to remember that the PS3 will also bring out a price cut later in the year. So to say “A victory by 10 000 units is the closest the PS3 will ever come” is exceedingly stupid on your part. Second place in the US will fluctuate between Sony and MS for a while, MS will take the next few months hands down, but Sony will cut the price and offer a MGS4 bundle and then they will take the months that follow, and then MS will counter and so on.

It’s exciting times for us gamers, and interesting that the Wii needs to do NOTHING to keep winning EVERY region.

Yea and remember that the 10 000 is added to the winnings from the rest of the world.
    But anyway, whatever!

Lets wait for the actual NPD numbers shall we? Other analysts say otherwise:

@Banana hammock- Who you calling stupid??? Take a look at the total sales of the 360 and PS3 in the US. If the PS3 carries on beating the 360 by 10 000 units then it will take the PS3 7 years to overtake the 360. Go do the math. I have done it before here.

There’s no guarantee that the US price of the Xbox 360 will fall quite yet – remember, the weakness of the US dollar at the moment means that it makes sense to adjust European prices when the PS3 has been whipping the 360 there each week.

The price of the 360 was also adjusted in Canada not too long ahead to bring it in line with the US retail price. For now, I’m guessing Microsoft must be content with its position in the US and will only respond with a price cut when it sees the PS3 pulling ahead decisively.

As for the rest, it’s hard to call on how much long term impact this price will have, outside of the UK and Ireland where it will solidfy the 360’s lead over the PS3. Certain European countries like Spain seem to hate the Xbox 360 almost as much as Japan does, and we know how much difference price cuts have made there.

Japan only received the Arcade version about a week or so ago – correct me if I’m wrong.
So with the drive that MS has with all the JRPG’s and the low cost console, they will certainly gun for the market waiting for the ever-elusive Final Fantasy XIII.

Let’s not forget that Suare Enix is making multiplatform JRPG’s now – Last Remnant – to make sure that market is being looked after.
They have also bagged two exclusive Japanese titles in the last 2 weeks.

The Japanese market is one of the most dificult to break into for the mighty MS but it has lots of time on its hand and lots of money. The two are great partners!

@Fox1, you really are stupid, i called you stupid directly in my first post. Was it confusing for you?

As for your math, i remember the article it happened in and if Lazy can bring it up it’ll show that i did the math for you. Yip, relating to the same thing.

I called you stupid now because of your use of the word EVER, can you predict the future? What happens if the 100 million odd PS2 owners upgrade to the PS3 tomorrow? Yes, they MAY buy XboXs but they MAY buy PS3s.
