Resistance 2 vs Gears of War 2

One of the biggest head to head’s this year is going to be Resistance 2 vs Gears of War 2.

If both of these titles were cross platform then I don’t think anyone would be pitting them head to head as they are so different. However since Killzone dropped into next year the war of the shooters has been left to these two to decide.

Gears if getting the media hype but it seems that most people who have played both are actually falling onto the side of Resistance 2.

8 Player full co-op sounds awesome and the lack of 4 player Gears co-op is quite the let down.

The nice thing from a sales tracker point of view is that this is going to be an easy war to choose a winner. Both consoles have huge install bases and both games are being released before Christmas. The game with the most sales by the 1st of January 2009 is the winner

What nonsense. The Xbox has a much bigger user base, total sales won’t be accurate. Maybe a fair reflection would be which one sells to a bigger percentage of the install base, but that wouldn’t be accurate either as it may just show that one console as less good games to buy.

I would suggest letting metacritic decide but we all know both games are going to get 10/10… bleh.

Don’t forget the 60 player online, that’s a big one.

Sales-wise Gears Of War will trump Resistance 2. I have no reservations about that whatsoever. Quality-wise, again, though the first Resistance had several “oh-that-was-rather-cool” moments, there is something uber special about Epic’s game. The guys over at Insomniac make very good games…but they’ve yet to make that foregone conclusion classic.

I predict that they will sell in the following range before 1 jan.
    Resistance 2 : 1 to 2.5 million
    Gears 2 : 5 to 8 million

Yea Gears will easily sell more, but I seriously doubt that it will trump Resistance in terms of quality. IMO RFoM was/is the best overall experience iv had in gaming in a very long time, #2 is gonna be ace!

Resistance’s biggest concern is not Gears 2, it should be more worried about CoD5 as it’s more of a direct competitor (FPS and mass co-op) and is likely to cannibalise some of the sales. Gears is arguably a different Genre.

Also remember Resistance 1 sold a heck of a lot of copies as bundle tie-ins.

I expect from a graphical perspective Gears2 will have the edge. But I did prefer Resistance’s gameplay and story.
The one thing that I liked about Resistance was the fact you had every weapon in the game by the last few missions to dispatch the enemy. Only being able to hold two main weapons was one thing that irritated the crap out of me in Gears and other games that restrict you like that. Probably why I loved Bioshock so much too.

Yeah cause humans can carry, 1 pistol, 1 smg, 1 grenade launcher, 1 rocket launcher, 1 BFG and have it crammed somewhere unspeakable :-D. I’ve gotten used to games that restrict your weapon count to a realistic limit that the old school FPS method of allowing you to carry 10 weapons actually bugs me now. Though I still love HL2 😀

i would have loved a boomshot with 100 bulets. But then they could have droped the cover just as well. On insane you realy had to plan how you aprouched every battle.

Well, it all comes down to multiplayer in the end doesnt it? The single player experiences are impressive but pretty short. Its the multiplayer elements that make these games what they are in the end.

I think R2 will be a better SP and have the edge in MP. But the hype train for Gears2 will just crush all before it.

I guess it’s courses for horses. The thing I like about gears is that it’s not “Just another alien shooter”, it introduced a new play mechanic which makes tactics more important that twitch.

I also prefer the rock-paper-scissors of limited weapons, again it means you have to think you way through the game.

Did anyone read up about this?
As far I know, R2 will also have the limited weapon choice system, no more mini-armory-in-back-pack system.

That being said, Gow will sell more(Larger userbase, hype train) and will be the best graphically, in the eyes of their respected owners. Just like R2 will be for theirs. Sadly I never understood why one game should be seen as the best? If we lived by that standard, we would still be only playing Buldar’s gate 2 or fallout 2.

Now this might be a foil-hat theory I have, but is it possible .. for .. TWO GREAT GAMES TO CO-EXIST! OMGWTFBBQ.
