PlayStation’s list of instant games for December were recently revealed, letting us all know that we should play the exceptionally well-conceived Titanfall 2. The multiplayer is incredible, but it’s the single player campaign that’s the standout. The less said about the other game, the better. Anyway, compared to a gem like Titanfall 2 (which everyone should already have anyway), the Xbox Games with Gold feel a little less exciting.
The first game, available from Sunday is Insane Robots, a one-on-one card battler and oh my god I’m asleep already. The better game for the Xbox One is the perfectly serviceable and fun-for-a-bit dinosaur theme park builder Jurassic World Evolution.
On the backwards compatible Xbox 360 games front, there’s a collection of toys who’re alive when you’re not looking in Toy Story 3, and the Xbox 360 port of the 3DS Castlevania game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — Mirror of Fate HD, which is obviously my pick of the lot. It’s a good game, though it likely looks a bit dated in 2019, especially being a port of a handheld game. To sum:
- Insane Robots — December 1 to 31 on Xbox One
- Jurassic World Evolution — December 16 to January 15 on Xbox One
- Toy Story 3 — December 1 to 15 on Xbox 360
- Castlevania: Lords of Shadow — Mirror of Fate HD — December 16 to 31 on Xbox 360
Not the best Christmas present from Microsoft, but with Game Pass being such a wonderful service, they’re probably more focused on getting the good stuff on there.
