Skate 2 on PS3 has serious frame rate issues

Skate 2

This is something I thought we had all managed to put behind us, yet it’s reared it’s ugly head once more.

Gameplayer.com.au has posted up their review of Skate 2 and while they have given it a huge shiny 9.5/10 they have raised one issue that I am sure PS3 fans are sick of seeing.

According to them

“There are some serious frame-rate concerns with the PS3 version of the game.”

Apparently the PS3 version just doesn’t handle as well as the 360 version and while the frame rate issues are not terrible they did apparently cause the reviewer to miss landing some stunts and generally enjoying the game as much.

EA have already announced that there will be a patch ready on release day so if you are looking at picking up Skate 2 make sure you have your PS3 attached to the Internet, else the 360 version is the way to go.

This is a very disappointing turn of events especially after we previously posted about how great the PS3 version is looking and the fact that they looked to have completely resolved the PS3 framerate issues that dogged the first installment of the game.

9.5 for the game, they reviewed both copies together.

Hrm, that’s weird coz I saw a developer diary vid on Skate 2 and one of the first things they mentioned was that they’d managed to get the framerates equal on both consoles and that they were very proud of their devs for doing this.

I hope for the PS3 peeps that this is indeed the case because Skate was pure awesome and Skate 2 looks to be the same!

I never played it before seeing that the Tony Hawk series scared me away from this genre. Can someone who’s not a skating fan indeed convince me this game is the pop-sovit of all skating games?

The Tony Hawk games dont even come close to Skate. There is no press X for triple spin backward over the front jumps(or watever else you could do)

The controls are just super intuitive and the pace is a lot more realistic, allowing you to enjoy the process of actually skating and being creative, rather than just trying to rack up superhuman scores.

It the difference between Call of Duty and Duke Nukem, one is immersive and makes you think and the other one is brainless and crazy. Neither of these are really bad things, just depends which one you prefer. As a non skater, thats all you need to consider.

while i don’t know if there has been a patch or if mayb i haven’t dled it the game absolutely rocks… but like countless others have said before the fact that the framerate %!#@s up for even a nanosecond sucks (ps3). There are many places where there are no problems but unfortunately in my eyes it seems that it’s only when you are going straight, not pumping, and not doing tricks… :getlost:
