So, the PSP Phone is an Officially Official Thing

This weekend, during the super bowl – which much to my surprise (and disappointment), isn’t a giant receptacle for eating noodles from – SonyEricsson finally officially revealed the Xperia Play – or PSP Phone we’ve known for months was coming.

They haven’t made much of an announcement though,; details of real specs, availability and carrier plans are set to be revealed on February 13th.

With the announcement of the PSP2/NGP, my interest in the PSP phone has waned significantly, but it does seem like the perfect thing for retro gamers who like to emulate 8 and 16 bit classics for a gaming on the go. From the leaked video’s we’ve seen, it’s also quite capable of running emulated PS 1 games – and will likely be hooked up to the recently revealed Playstation Suite, digital delivery service for getting games on to Android (and other) phones.

Here’s the ad that was shown. Are you ready to PLAY?

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
