I have you now...

I don’t think anyone has experienced great space combat in gaming untile they’ve played at least one Star Wars game AND GET BACK IN YOUR HOLE STARLANCER!..Ahem. The Star Wars Rogue Squadron games are great examples of the genre, from PC all the way to the Gamecube. A new version of that revered genre was on the way to PC. Was.

And it’s now deader than the pilots who took a suicide run on the original Death Star. According to CVG, Disney has unleashed their fully operational Death Cancel laser on the game, which would have been a free to play title.

Area 52 was working on the project, with the cancellation being announced on Facebook and the official website.

We want to thank all of the fans who participated in the closed beta of Star Wars: Attack Squadrons.

After much consideration, we have decided to cease development so that we can focus on other Star Wars game experiences.

We truly appreciate the time you spent engaging in the beta.

Well dammit. I’ve been following the game since December 2013, hoping to rekindle some love for the space combat genre. And after the cancellation of Star Wars 1313 and a Darth Maul standalone game, I feel like I’ve just been force-kicked in the mini-midichlorians again.
