sTARSHIP TROOPERS 2

This is for all you new people who just joined the Critical Hit Roughnecks. I only have one rule: Everyone fights, no one quits. You don’t do your job, I’ll shoot you myself. Do you get me? Oh stop crying Brad, it’s not my fault you drew the cannon fodder trooper straw now get out there and defend our expensive military equipment with your squishy body already.

If you haven’t seen Starship Troopers, I both pity and despise you. It’s the best war movie ever made, a real-life story sent back in time to prepare mankind for our eventual war against the bugs. A real movie for real believers, it’s one of those rare films that happens to be well worth watching over and over again whenever it’s on TV. Just like Independence Day and Freddy Got Fingered.

For a cult classic film, Starship Troopers has had but a handful of games tied to it over the years. There were attempts in the past such as the 2000 strategy game Starship Troopers: Terran Ascendancy and a first-person shooter from Strangelite in 2005, but no developer seems to have cracked the code behind what makes the property so much dang fun.

Developers Slitherine Games and The Aristocrats reckon that they’ve got what it takes to crack a Klendathu shell to get to the gooey goodness inside, as they’ve just announced Starship Troopers: Terran Command. Here’s the trailer for it:

“If you take one of the most iconic movies from the 90s and shape it into a strategy game of survival, that mixes classic real-time mechanics, tower defense and tactical deployment of units then you have ‘Starship Troopers – Terran Command’ in a nutshell,” Slitherine development director Iain McNeil wrote in a post for the announcement of the new game.

Modern strategy games are fast-paced and they successfully blend unit management, survival and captivating storytelling. Nothing is more suited to this type of gameplay than the Starship Troopers universe, where there is a continuous sense of danger and uncertainty.

So far, it’s looking good! Dynamically generated campaigns and a storyline that changes based on how well you do in combat are the key selling points here, as you fight your way to the top using either superior tactics or you throw as many troops into the fight as your cold heart will allow for. Do you want to know more?

If anything it looks like a 40K: Dawn of War 2 deal, you call in your squads and move through the map using formation and cover to your advantage.

They at least have portable mini nukes launchers, but then again a single shot of plasma basically will melt any bug in its path XD And let’s not even get started on basilisk earthshaker round, they’ll clear a bug nest in one barrage.
