Star Wars Battlefront takes the fight to Outer Rim

Star Wars was a hit in every sense of the word last year. It destroyed box office records with the rather spectacular Force Awakens, and sent merchandising profits through the ceiling as a result. So it’s no shock that EA is making top dollar with Star Wars Battlefront – the gorgeous albeit barebones multiplayer shooter that still has a lot of content on the way. Content that costs a lot of money, but some that at least looks a little interesting.

Like the Outer Rim expansion for example, which is launching sometime this month and adds quite a bit to the enduring shooter. It’s part of the equally enduring Season Pass, and adds no less than two new Heroes characters (the well known first shooter Greedo and the less popular Nien Nunb) as well as four new maps, a brand new game mode and some new weapons. You can check out the highly choreographed action in the trailer below.

The new game mode, Extraction, tasks the Rebels with extracting an important shipment of resources before the Empire can stop them. That means one team will be escorting a payload of sorts to the extraction ship while the other tries to stop them in the time allotted. Think Team Fortress 2/ Overwatch/ every other team-based shooter meets Battlefront, and you’ll get the idea.

Greed and Nunb themselves don’t look all too interesting aside from their beautifully recreated avatars, offering up similar ranged attacks to Han Solo and Leia. It certainly would’ve been fun to have at least one more ain to the like of Luke or Boba Fett (in the way that they shake up the traditional gameplay), but there’s still some part of me that yearns to have my Greedo shoot Solo first once and for all.

Better yet, one of the new maps include Jabba’s Palace, so retribution will certainly be sweeter there. Outer Rim is out later this month, with DICE still working on more content for those of you still playing Battlefront. Are there any?

I have assumed the game is not doing well, based purely on seeing it on sale several times this year, on Xbox live weekly deals.

So, you are enjoying it then? Hmm. interesting. Still not a FPS person, me.
