Home Gaming Team ICO Collection up for pre-order

Team ICO Collection up for pre-order

1 min read

Team ICO, the amazing development studio behind ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, has a lot of fans. Nearly all of those fans have been clamouring for an HD re-release for both of these PlayStation 2 gems. Sony did that for God of War I and God of War II so it seems likely that they’ll give the go-ahead for this.

The rumours of an HD Team ICO collection have been doing the rounds for a while now, but Wallmart may have just let the surprise slip: the Team ICO collection is available for pre-order with a release date of 01 April 2011.

There is no boxart up as yet, but you can check the listing here. Having never owned a PlayStation 2, I specifically hunted around for months to try and find a backwards compatible PlayStation 3 just so I could play Shadow of the Colossus and ICO. Despite the fact that I own the games already and have played them dozens of times, I’ll still buy the hell out of this re-release if Wallmart proves to be on the money.

Dont worry easy Eurogamer have pretty much confirmed it for around that date in UK with retailers also so its accurate. Two of the greatest games of all time coming to HD. I just traded in some of my PS2 collection including Ico and SOtC expecting this bit of news. Hopefully the rumours of a PS3 POP and Splinter Cell Trilogy are also true because i traded them in today also.

The other thing to consider is that this will be released to drum up anticipation for the Last Guardian like Sony did with the GOW collection before GOW 3 was released. Which means The Last Guardian in May, June or July. God i cant wait!!!! GOTY comfirmed for next year

Also @Miklós Szecsei: Its nice to have a staffer on Lazygamer that has played these two gems and will talk up the Last Guardian a bit. Hint Hint!!!

Just to show the demand for this. My cousin sold his PAL version of ICO (PS1) for R1000. His Shadow of the Colossus went for R650.

We should be able to start talking a lot more about it when they show off a lot of stuff at TGS, we posted quite a bit on it originally, but details on it have been pretty damn quiet for a while now.

Wow to the guy that purchased those games at those prices you are going to kick yourself in the ass when you know what we know 😆

Theres only 3 great games on PS2 i missed out on Beyond good and evil, Dark Chronicle and Zone of Enders the second runner from Koj Productions. Fortunately i managed to pick up the former 2 very cheap on Kalaharis buyers market. Still trying to find the second runner cheap though.

You’re probably spot-on about the drumming up anticipation idea. I must admit, whenever I find more info on Last Guardian I squeal like a little girl.

I dont blame you i get almost its like i have lemon in my eye when i think about whats in store  Anyways it looks like TGS this week will hopefully give us a release date. I just hope the game can break the one million mark in sales because Fumito Ueda sure as hell deserves more mainstream success with his games. I will be doing my best on many gaming forums to convince ppl to play this like i did with Demon’s Souls last year.

Since there seems to be a lot more interest in the Last Guardian on here let me fill you guys on some interesting speculation from the team Ico Blog. Heres the link for you guys….http://teamicogamers.blogspot.com/2010/08/patent-for-user-generated-layout.html

Ok so Fumito Ueda and Sony filed this patent recently. Now The Last Guardian is the first game that is rumoured to have online components in the series. This is just a rumour for now but it should all be revealeved if true at TGS.

The new patent states that….”From what I read so far (documentation is very long) the patent is for a program which allows the developers and the players’ actions to influence and change the layout of a map or level. This means that if I change something in my game world, and we are both connected to the network, your game world will change according to the changes that occurred in mine. So, for example, if I destroy a bridge in my game world, then that bridge in your game world will be already destroyed when you reach that point.”

Now if anyone has played Demon’s Souls you will know that they incorporated a very innovative and brilliant online component where players can leave hints ( to burn you or help you in any given level ) in levels and players can invade your game if you are in human form to get back their own human form in their own respective Demon’s souls game world or join you in co-op to take on the really tougher bosses.

This sounds like an evolution of those online components whereby instead of just leaving hints and clues you can change something in my Last Gaurdian game world. Hinder or help me.

When you think of the applications in something like a Fallout RPG where lets say you play the game with maybe 2 or 3 friends on your friends list in a sort of co-op form, start at different points and progress through your game. Lets say friend A takes the nasty approach and decides to kill the sheriff in a town then when i get there the outlaws might be running wild or vica versa he was helpful to the sheriff and the town is super friendly to you. Or even the bridge example above could be applied where a friend destroys a bridge forcing you to find a flying contraption or take the more dangerous river roue etc. This last example i gave is probably way to expansive for current gen consoles but im sure you guys can see the potential of the patent. Now if this is for Fumito Ueda’s next game or set for a reveal at TGS in The Last Guardian i dont know and we will wait and see.

That sounds super interesting, I know the NCSoft guys working on Guild Wars 2 are doing similar things as well.

Yeah the only drawbacks i see to this are the same things we hate about home. Every time you visit a place in home you will have to update and dowload the cinema or shopping area again. So im thinking that if the game changes are too big in my world we might have to dowload small patches. Or maybe theres a way to access this quick and easily from an install on your HDD with a load screen? I dunno unfortunately im not so smart with the developer tech stuff. On a smaller scale this could definitely work and i wonder if Journey the game from That Game Company ( The creators of Flower ) arent doing something similar based on the description of their new game.

I think if it is simply handled on the server side, then updates wont be required, the server should just trigger events that utilise pre-existing assets already installed with the game.

In Guild Wars 1 they cleverly only patched areas in the game that needed patching, so if you traveled to a certain region that was patched, it was a tiny little quick update to enter, rather than one massive one that patched the entire game.

That makes sense. Anyways im looking forward to TGS now more than ever before. Capcom is also said to be announcing four new games with DMC5 pretty much confirmed and Resident Evil 6 rumoured. MGS Rising should make an appearance and a sequel to Valkyria chronicles is also expected. TGS should be good this year!
