You will never forget the disappointment that stabbed through your heart the day that you got Xbox LIVE, punched in the Gamertag igotAhugeMemberLulZ but was told that it was already in use.

The worst part is that you had forgotten that Xbox LIVE went way back to the original Xbox’s days, which means that this other person with the allegedly enormous organ may have had a massive head start on you. Even worse, it’s highly likely that if they were telling the truth and their member was really that huge, they had probably become a porn star and become too busy to ever play games, which means that the Gamertag has been sitting there doing nothing for years, when you could be doing it such sweet justice.

It could happen.

According to Xbox LIVE’s very own Major Nelson:

Starting today, we have begun the process of making previously used and unavailable (dead) Xbox LIVE Gamertags available. This process will take some time to complete, and no we can’t tell you when the Gamertag you want might be available. If you are interested, you should check back regularly as we are reviving Gamertags daily.

So then, if you have been absolutely dying to throw some money at Microsoft for no real good reason, why not change your gamertag. You could of course just… you know, buy and enjoy a game with that money instead?
