The 360 is the better platform

John Carmack

Before you freak out I didn’t make up the headline. It is actually an exact quote from one of the most famous gaming developers on the planet.

The technical director of Id Software, John Carmack,  has said that the 360 is the better platform if you want to continue to create games like we have had before.

So is that an insult against the PS3 or a compliment for the 360?

He goes on to say that in theory the PS3 is more powerful and you could get more out of the console if you were developing exclusively for it.

So either we are going to have to vote John into politics or we are going to have to accept that the two consoles each have their own benefits and there will never be an absolute winner.

But that’s ridiculous, lets rather get him into politics… It’s easier there

“has said that the 360 is the better platform if you want to continue to create games like we have had before”

What he is saying is actually what we all knew before. Multiplat -> Xbox360 better, exclusive -> PS3 better

“You could design a game where the PS3 would be the superior platform, but you’d have to go out of your way to do it. If you’re doing a game like people just want to do games now, the 360’s the better platform.”
    So it’s Macdonald’s over a 3 star Michelin restaurant?
What a cop out. I find his comments insulting to the 360.

He basically said it’s easier to get decent games to market on the 360. So for game developers, you get a much better ROI.

He did, also say that with Rage, the 360 version will be the worst looking because the new idTech 5 engine uses megatextures and DVD9 is a limiting factor for this tech (even though the game with ship on 2 DVDs)

But what he is really saying is he is too lazy to try and get the best possible result, rather settling for what has already been achieved. Yay for him!

Well. Does he mean like GT5? Where they release a demo you buy, Promise damage, but the game engine doesnt look like it can applied via their mentioned ‘patch’ ? Promise weather effects? And then take 5 years to make it? Yup.I havnt seen a game like that before.

Yes, HE is too lazy. HIM alone.

Please note that ID Software is a company with numorous share holders and decision makers all looking to maximise ROI. The lazy arguments is absolutely garbage. No company is lazy.
