The (de-)evolution of a Battlefield mini map

1 min read

In squad based shooters an standard FPS titles there are very few things more important than the simplistic mini map. It shows you where your friends are and where spotted enemies are and in a game like Battlefield where that tank is coming from.

So it’s obvious that the developers would spend more than 5 minutes in the pub designing this and that it would be simplistic, easy to read and functional.

Well that’s unfortunately not the case as we can see from this evolution of a Battlefield infographic that I found on Reddit. The map has simply gotten worse every year since the original Battlefield title was released.

The latest is salvageable if they shrunk the markers, improved the terrain outlines and used better colours to signify squad mates.
