You don’t need us to tell you that Skyrim is somewhat of a cultural phenomenon. I’d argue that it’s partially responsible for games slowly becoming widely accepted as a mainstream hobby; there was a point in time where every and their nana was playing Skyrim. Even now, if you had to ask someone who doesn’t really play a great deal of video games, they’ll likely say they played (and probably loved) Skyrim. There’s a reason it’s been ported onto every console under the sun and yet for some reason the game’s never been translated into cardboard. How has it taken this long to develop a Skyrim boardgame?
The project has been announced as a “campaign preview” on Gamefound and promises to be an “epic co-operative board game” and beyond that… we know absolutely nothing. If the game Gamefound is new to you that’s because it’s fairly new for everyone. Gamefound is a new crowdfunding platform specifically dedicated to developing tabletop games, whether they be original properties or already licensed properties. Speaking to Polygon, Gamefound described itself as the “bridge between backers and game creators”.
Modiphius Entertainment are the folks handling the adaption and have insisted that they’ll be sharing plenty of previews and updates throughout the development process just to keep everyone who’s not stoked on the crowdfunding angle satisfied. If you’re worried that Modiphius doesn’t have the chops for something like this, then you’ll be pleased to know they did the board game adaption of Dishonored which was apparently rather well regarded. We hardly have any information on the Skyrim boardgame let alone a release date but I’d speculate that we could see it release in the first quarter of 2022. Don’t quote me on that though. Fus Ro Dah indeed!
