The Witcher 3 is going open world

If there was one title that highlighted polish video game development in 2011 and 2012, it was The Witcher 2. Created by CD Projekt RED, the game is seen as a modern day masterpiece, and one that was done on a budget that would have been impossible for bigger companies to emulate. While CDP has started work on that other game, Cyberpunk 2077, they’ve also expanded their focus to start work on The Witcher 3, which sees the return of a beardier Geralt.

Game Informer may not have released the print edition of their magazine yet, but the early online version has downloaded with a cover revealing the unannounced CDP sequel. It’s a legitimate image according to the Zinio subscription page, and thanks to NeoGAF user Indigo Cyclops, we’ve got some more details on what to expect in the game. Such as a much more open world with to do some witchering;

  • World supposedly 20% bigger than Skyrim’s
  • 30-40 minutes to cross world on Horseback
  • New streaming technology (CDRED Engine 3)
  • Geralt’s Memory is restored
  • No chapters/acts
  • Dude is fucking DONE fighting for everyone else
  • Everything from solving MYSTERIES to slaying monsters
  • Coming out on “all top-of-the-line” consoles – I’d say that confirms next-gen is in.

It’s that last line that has me intrigued. The game is most likely a solid year from completion at least, which could put it in the running to be a launch title for the Playstation 4 or Xbox Durango/720. And after the solid port of The Witcher 2 onto Xbox 360 last year, CDP obviously has experience with working on a platform that isn’t keyboard and mouse-based.

But an open-world where Geralt is riding around engaging in battles and solving mysteries? Hell, count me in for that adventure.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
